In tackling the increasing rate of teen pregnancies in Senior High Schools in the Upper East Region of Ghana, International Women’ Hope Centre (IWHC) as part of its approach in reducing the alarming rate of teen pregnancy in the senior High Schools has instituted an adolescent club dubbed IWHC Adolescent Club which operates under the theme preventing early pregnancy and caring for the well-being of the adolescent at Bolgatanga Senior High School. The adolescent club in the high school will provide the platform for IWHC to have direct access to the adolescents where abstinence and youth leadership value topics will be discussed.
In launching the adolescent club at the Bolgatanga Senior High School, the Centre director of IWHC, Madam Gladys Anayem said the formation of the IWHC adolescent club is to provide care and education for adolescents through medical education and support services. She added that the club will provide sound teachings on abstinence and life choices which will help reduce teen pregnancy in the schools.
She specified that, the Relationship Under Construction (RUC) and the iChoose Youth Leadership Values Program module are the two main curriculums that will be used in achieving the goal of reducing teen pregnancy.
The Assistant headmaster of the school, Mr. Christopher Kwabouk was delighted about the formation of the adolescent club. He said the establishment of the club which is the first of its kind in the school can also help reduce teen pregnancy in the school.
The launching of the adolescent club witnessed over eight hundred students in attendance. The students will be grouped into various departments were the IWHC team will have sessions with them twice within the month on weekends.
